KOKO CHE JOTA & ALHAMBRA WORKSHOP
ALHAMBRA GARDEN ENGRAVING WORKSHOP
On November 3 of this year (2023), Cervezas Alhambra , through the advertising agency Kitchen and Havas Comunicación , proposed that I teach an intensive hour and a half workshop at El Casino de la Exposición in Seville .
Both I, with my artistic project Koko Che Jota , and another series of Sevillian artists , were selected as part of the Jardín Alhambra Sevilla event : an event that derives from the latest Alhambra Special Beer campaign under the name of Momentos Alhambra .
Without much hesitation, I decided to join this group of local artists from Seville and teach my first workshop ever for about 20 students. Since I'd never done it before, I thought that, of all my most used artistic techniques , the best option would be sgraffito on ceramics. It's relatively easy to teach when you don't have much time, and above all, it's incredibly engaging because applying it is a pleasure.
The students arrived very quickly, and we were able to begin the intensive ceramics workshop right away. I began by explaining the key elements of ceramics as a material for any project: how clay behaves , how to mix ingredients for the engobe , how to transfer designs to a ceramic slab , and so on.
I was delighted to see the students' ease and determination, having perfectly understood my instructions and the designs they came up with. Punch in hand, they eagerly and painstakingly tackled the slip on their plates, and after tearing and tearing, they produced personal and profound designs that made me feel so proud and excited.
My goal after this great little adventure, given its great reception, is to start a series of sgraffito workshops in Seville, with more depth and detail. If you'd like to attend, follow me on my Instagram profile @koko_che_jota to find out when they start and much more.
